A Civil society organization has challenged the Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ  to clearly explain the biometric verification policy that will be used in next week’s elections and  the implications of the policy in an event where  the system proved unreliable.

A memo by the ECZ  revealed that the biometric verification was to be used in all constituencies of the 10 provinces especially in areas with high voter turnout in next week’s general elections.

The Zambian Youths against Apathy (ZAYA) executive director Chimbutso Zulu said there was need for the commission to clearly explain to the voters on how the system would work to avoid suspensions.

Zulu said there was also need for the commission to give guarantee on the security of the data of electorates.
