FDD president, Edith Nawakwi has congratulated President- elect Hakainde Hichilema on becoming the country’s seventh Republican President and requested that his government reviews the Public Order Act as a first priority.
Ms Nawakwi said the Act had been a source of division between successive governments and opposition political parties.

She also urged Mr Hichilema to reform the constitution in the area of representation of the marginalised mainly women, the youth and the physically challenged.

Ms Nawakwi said this in a congratulatory letter to the President-elect Hichilema dated August 21, 2021.

“It is with great pleasure that I convey my sincere congratulations and on behalf of the FDD on the overwhelming mandate given to you and the Vice President-elect on your ascension to the highest office in the land,” the letter reads in part.

Ms Nawakwi said the overwhelming mandate was clear evidence of the trust and confidence which the people of Zambia had placed in Mr Hichilema to steer the nation to greater new heights.
