FORMER Republican President Edgar Lungu says he will soon retire from active politics.
Mr Lungu said when time comes, he would announce the new Patriotic Front President and would take leave because he had run his race and he needed to rest.
He however wondered why some people were busy giving him advice regarding his Presidency, that they were just wasting their time because he understood the law and he would do according to what the law states.
The former President said this when he attended church service at the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) All Saints congregation in Chainda yesterday.
Mr Lungu however advised the PF leadership to now start to rebrand itself with new leadership for 2026 as he needed to rest now.
“I am not available for 2026, the PF should now rebrand itself with new leadership. When the right time comes, we will announce the new PF President and I will take leave, I have run my race, let me rest” the former President said.
Meanwhile, President Lungu has thanked the people of Zambia for remaining peaceful during and after the August 12 general elections and appealed to all Zambians to be praying for the nation..
He said Zambia shall remain a Christian nation therefore principles of Christianity must continue to apply.
