THERE was laughter in Lusaka Local Court when a man said that his wife punches him whenever they differed and that he runs away.

Clifford Mwanza, 22, of Lusaka west was testifying in a case in which his wife, Mary Mwanza, 22, of Lilanda compound sued him for reconciliation.

The two got married in 2011 and have one child.

Mary told Senior Court Magistrate Pauline Newa sitting with Magistrates Miyanda Banda and Ronnie Shyafwensha at Matero Local Court that problems started in 2014 because Mwanza has been chasing her and that in May 2017 she left after he packed for her but she was shocked after a month to hear that he married another woman.

‘’When I asked Mwanza he admitted marrying another woman and said that I should do what I want,’’ said Mary.

In defence, Mwanza said that problems started in 2014 because when they differ with Mary she would be the first to punch him and that he runs away.

He explained that on June 9, 2017 when he knocked off he found Mary wearing a pair of trousers and that she asked him why he delayed coming home adding that she punched him.

‘’I decided to leave Mary because she punches me and she warned me that she will burn me with hot oil. I just want divorce because Mary can cause a big problem,’’ said Mwanza.

Magistrate Newa ruled a failed reconciliation because Mwanza refused to reconcile and that the court cannot force him to continue in marriage. She said that it was up to one of them to sue for divorce.
