ZAM FASTEST DISMISSES DRIVERS’ CLAIM

By SIMON MUNTEMBA

ZAM Fastest Logistics proprietor, Andy Chen, has said his workers enjoyed the best conditions of service compared to most cross border transporters in Zambia, and over 90 percent of the workforce were on full contracts.

In an interview, Mr Chen said the company respected the country’s labour laws and did not only pay workers on time, but paid them well.

He was reacting to news story alleging that cross border drivers working for the company had abandoned their copper-laden trucks destined for Durban in South Africa due to poor conditions of service.

Mr Chen said the company respected Zambian labour laws and did not only pay workers on time, but paid them well.

Mr Chen said it was not true that the company was offered poor working conditions and low wages to its workers as it paid some of them up to K15, 000 per month.

He claimed that his competitors were behind the story just to tarnish his company’s reputation because few if not none among the cross border transporters paid their workers that much.

He said it was unfair to accuse his company of exploiting workers when it was paying them well. Meanwhile, one of the workers, Mr Misheck Mwelwa, said he had worked for the company for over five years because of ZAM Fastest Logistics the good working conditions.
