2 in pitched fight for ABSA slot
…as Zesco seek a top three first round finish

By MICHAEL MOYOBA
FTER dropping points following a draw and defeat to Zesco United and Chambishi FC respectively, Sensational Zanaco FC and Kabwe Warriors will today renew their rivalry when they face off in a rescheduled Week-14 MTN/FAZ Super League fixture at Godfrey Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe.
The fixture promises a lot of sparks with both teams seeking nothing but a win to claim one of the two remaining ABSA Cup slots.
Warriors are 10th on the Super League table with 23 points and a win over the Bankers will guarantee a top-six first round finish for Ian Bakala’s charges who are still mourning their 1-0 home loss to Chambishi FC in their last fixture.
Bakala will rely on his lethal top men in Ali Sadiki, Jimmy Ndlovu and Akakulubelwa Mwachiyaba to deliver the needed goals to finish the first round on a positive note.
Meanwhile, Zanaco who are 12th on the Super League table with 19-points are also targeting a win to qualify for the ABSA Cup which accommodates the best six teams from the Super League and two teams from the National Division one league.
The Bankers will seek to get their first win in four games after dropping points in the last three matches where they managed to get two points from two draws and one defeat to Indeni FC.
After struggling to beat Indeni, Kansanshi and Zesco United in the last three games, Zanaco will need to improve on their tactics to hand Warriors their second consecutive home defeat.
The Bankers who have scored only 12 goals in 15 games will have to work on getting goals as they seek their fifth win of the season.
In the first fixture of the double header at Godfrey Chitalu Stadium, defending champions Zesco United will fight for a win against Prison Leopards to avoiding dropping out of the top six.
The Ndola giants are fifth on the Super League table and a draw against Prison Leopards will be enough for Mumamba Numba’s charges to make it to the ABSA Cup.
Only league leaders Green Buffalo’s, Green Eagles, Nkana and Red Arrows have so far clinched ABSA Cup slots and defeat to Prison Leopards may be disastrous for Zega Mambo whose title defence has not been very convincing.
A win over Prison Leopards will take Zesco to second or third on the Super League table depending on how many goals scored as they will be on par with second-placed Green Eagles who are on 28 points.
