Embrace conservation agriculture, Kazungula farmers urged

KATOMBORA Member of parliament Clement Andeleki has said that the harsh climatic conditions that are being experienced in the Southern part of the country, and Kazungula in particular requires farmers to be innovative and adopt conservation agriculture for sustainable agriculture.


And Dr Andeleki has announced that the constituency has allocated K 1 million to the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to connect Nyawa chiefdom to the national grid.
Speaking during the Kazungula District Agriculture show in Kabuyu farming bloc on Friday, Dr Andeleki said conservation sustainable agriculture promotes crop production systems that farmers should embrace.
Dr Andeleki has also encouraged farmers to take agriculture as a business now that government was enhancing it to help them be sustainable.
He said, as a way of attempting to promote agriculture activities in Katombora, the district will open up the road network through an allocation from the CDF. He said the District cannot develop the agriculture sector without a good road network.
In view of that, Dr Andeleki disclosed that the district has started rehabilitating roads with works taking shape on the Zimba-Nyawa road which will also subsequently connect Ngwezi and Bombwe.
Meanwhile, Kazungula Town Council Chairperson Mbozi Tatila has urged farmers in the district not to sale all the farm produce but secure some for family consumption.
Ms Tatila said that farmers in Kazungula should take advantage of this year’s maize price floor by selling their maize to the Food Reserve Agency.
The show was held under the theme “inclusive economic transformation.”
