Livestock sector gets boost

GOVERNMENT is committed to improving small holder Livestock production and we will enhance the operation of all breeding centers around the country, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Michael Katambo has said.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation, Mr Katambo said that his ministry had embarked on a number of projects aimed at realizing the importance of the livestock production in the region

He said that government was working with its cooperating partners in order to realize that diversification agenda.

“His Excellency the president has been emphasizing the need to encourage the agenda of agriculture diversification and so you can see that there is commitment from the part of government to see to it that this is done,” he said.

Mr Katambo said that the ministry was going to recruit qualified staff to fill up various vacancies in the proposed structure in order to effectively run various centers.

Mr Katambo said that the program of stocking and restocking of animals was on going in various parts of the country.

“You may wish to know, the program of stocking and restocking of animals is actively running in a number of provinces around the country like in Mwansabombwe, under Lefline International

“The ministry is also recruiting livestock stocking specialists, in collaboration with Lefline International who are their cooperating partners, including the World Bank and African Development bank,” he said.

Mr Katambo further said that the minister was confident with the potential that would come out of the small holder Livestock products
