THE Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts has hailed World Fitness Federation Zambia and the Zambia Ladies Golf Union for representing Zambia diligently at the world fitness federation championship in South Africa and the A and B triangular golf championship in Botswana.
The World Fitness Federation Zambia scooped nine medals in South Africa and qualified for the World Championships in Germany while the ladies golf team came back home with two trophies won at the 2023 triangular golf championship in Botswana.
Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu said the medals and trophies won by the two teams symbolise the skills and perseverance the sports men and women have to bring glory to the nation.
Nkandu said in a speech ready by Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe during a medal presentation that the bodybuilding and the ladies golf teams were not derailed by the limited investment in sports preparation and development which has been a hindrance to athletes.
“Their success in international tournaments reminds us of the importance of continuously ensuring that the government provides matching infrastructure and support to develop sport in the country. Their achievements demonstrate the talent and potential that exists in our country,” Nkandu said.
Nkandu encouraged the two teams to continue working hard and make the country proud in international tournaments.
Meanwhile, Zambia Ladies Golf Union president, Carol Joynt hailed Government and the sponsors for the financial support which made it possible for the golfers to travel to Botswana for the golf championship.
And World Fitness Federation Zambia president Peter Chanda described the team’s outing in South Africa as a success.
Phiri also applauded the bodybuilders who had to pay their own participation fee to compete in South Africa.
