A salary is not a priority for me says President Hichilema

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says him getting a salary from the government is not a priority and that is not what the people of Zambia voted him for.

Mr Hichilema said that a salary is not what motivates him to work but that his priority is to better the lives of the people of Zambia.

In reference to some speculations from some sections of society that he has not been paid for eight months, President Hichilema said that a salary is not a priority for him and that that is not an issue.

Mr Hichilema told journalists in Livingstone that his priority is to reconstruct the country’s economy by fulfilling his promises.

Whatever the difficulties, our intent is very clear, whatever the challenge our priority is to make the people of Zambia’s lives better,” he said

Well, that is not an issue, pay is not our motivation and its not that the government has not been managing to pay or has no money. It’s just that I haven’t paid attention on that. My attention is how we can better the lives of the Zambian people, that’s not my priority,” Mr Hichilema said.

And President Hichilema said that the visit of Rwandan President Paul Kagame is a blessing to the people of Southern Province na d Livingstone in particular.

He said that this is so because the discussions that they will hold with his Rwandan counterpart will benefit the people of the two nations.

“Our people, the Rwandes people, you the Zambian people. As you know our agenda is to make the lives of our people better…that is what you elected us for,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Hichilema held a private meeting with Chief Mukuni and Nyawa upon arrival in Livingstone.

Chief Mukuni expressed happiness that the President had found time to visit the District.

He said thatj the last time the President visited was when he was in the opposition.
