Sunday Chanda urges gov’t to urgently respond to climate change challenges

By NATION REPORTER

KANCHIBIYA Member of Parliament Sunday Chanda has called on Government to urgently respond to the challenges of climate change by removing import duties on agricultural mechanisation, irrigation and animal feed technologies and equipment.

Mr. Chanda highlights that this is one sure way of adapting to climate change otherwise over-reliance on rainfed agriculture is suicidal and Zambia has an opportunity to transform its agricultural sector by engaging in a heightened mechanisation agenda.

He also calls on the Ministries of Finance and that of Agriculture to provide a climate change adaptation mechanism to the nation which should include irrigation, strategies for technological transfer, promotion of seed varieties as well as diversifying the country’s crop portfolio. CLICK TO HERE READ MORE
