Now Tayali slapped with defamation of the president

EMBATTLED Economic and Equity Party president Chilufya Tayali has officially been charged with defamation of the president after he was arrested in Livingstone on his return from South Africa.

Mr Mwansa Chambaila, his lawyer said Mr Tayali who has been in detention for almost a week has also been charged with assaulting a police officer and that the matter has been taken to the National Prosecutions Authority (NPA).

Mr Chambaila said that he was waiting for correspondence from NPA to inform him when Mr Tayali would appear in court.

“I can confirm that he has now been officially charged with defamation of the president but he is still in detention since he has the assault case,” Mr Chambaila said.

Mr Tayali is facing two charges with the more recent one being for allegedly hitting a police officer who was on duty on the face with a kettle at Chilenje police station.
