Fuel price ‘indaba’ needed – expert

By KALUNGA MWAPE

ENERGY expert Johnstone Chikwanda says there is need for government and the private sector to hold bilateral meetings to ensure that the prices of fuel are maintained lower in the long term process.

On Monday, the Energy Regulatory Board announced the upward adjustment in the fuel pump prices following the depreciation of the Kwacha recently.

Dr. Chikwanda said the increase in the fuel pump price is as a result of the happenings on the international market as well as the depreciation of the kwacha recently.

He said going forward, the government should work closely with the private sector to ensure that the country utilises other means of transporting fuel such as the pipelines that will not be affected much by the international market.
