HIGH INCOME EARNERS TO PAY MORE MONEY FOR POWER CONNECTION
ENERGY

Minister Peter Kapala says Government is planning to introduce a scheme that will make high income earners pay more money for electricity connection to enhance operations at Zesco.
Speaking when he called on Southern Province Minister Cornelius Mweetwa at his office in Choma yesterday, Mr. Kapala said the disparity in charges will help enhance the operations of Zesco which has been subsidising the service to its customers.
Mr. Kapala said the current connection charges have been equal across income earners without some sort of segregation due to electricity subsidies.
He said the government is working on restructuring Zesco and help improve service delivery to its customers and also hopes to accelerate rural electricity connectivity across the country starting next year.
And Mr Mweetwa said lack of electricity in rural areas has made it difficult for schools to implement the ICT policy.
Mr. Mweetwa said some teachers have deserted rural schools opting to work in areas where there is better electricity connectivity.
