THE four church mother bodies especially the House of Chiefs  should visit chief Mukuni and sit him down and advise him not to segregate the people of Zambia, a local pastor has advised.

In a related development, the traditional leadership in Southern Province has been shocked into silence at Senior Chief Mukuni’s decision to snub government officials at this year’s Lwiindi Traditional ceremony for the Bene Mukuni.

It is very unfortunate that some traditional leaders who are supposed to be peace makers and key pillars of society have now become cadres, Christian Faith Mission Center (CFMC) Pastor Peter Chanda has bemoaned.

He said that it was disappointing to learn that senior chief Mukuni of the Toka-Leya people in Kazungula district did not invite government officials to attend his Bene Mukuni traditional ceremony.

The Clergyman said that senior chief Mukuni should have invited all stake holders to attend his ceremony especially the highest level of office in this country.

Pastor Chanda said that the way chief Mukuni was behaving as a carder was definitely a disgrace in the chiefdom and that traditional ceremony were not encouraged to be partisan.

In an interview with the Daily Nation Pastor Chanda said that traditional leaders and the church leaders play an important role of uniting people in society.

And Senior Chief Mukuni’s decision not to invite government officials has not gone well and has left many traditional leaders shocked and silent.

Southern Province Royal Foundation chairperson Senior Chief Chikanta of Kalomo was reluctant to comment and could only say he “I don’t know what transpired and what led to that so I have no comment.”

Another member of the foundation Chief Simamba said he too had no comment over what transpired in Mukuni.

Other traditional leaders spoken to were Chief Bright Nalubamba of Namwala, Chief Chipepo and Chief Chanje of the Chewa speaking people in Eastern Province.
