The United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Chimwemwe congregation in Kitwe says it requires about K9.7 million to go towards construction of a modern church.

This came to light after UCZ Chimwemwe congregation Reverend, Munjita Kamuya, welcomed President Edgar Lungu for Sunday service. President Lungu also donated K20, 000 to the Women’s Christian Fellowship meant for women’s empowerment at the church.

Rev Kamuya said the church had already acquired a plot where the new church would be built to accommodate the rising number of the congregants.

He said it was an honour for the Head of State to visit the church in Chimwemwe Township where the President grew up.

Rev Kamuya later handed the bill of quantity documents to President Lungu who said he would look into the matter.

He also commended President Lungu for the gesture saying the church and government were partners in development as demonstrated by his (Mr. Lungu’s) administration.

Rev Kamuya said the country has seen unprecedented development since the PF came into office in 2011 adding that President Lungu was the President for all Zambians because he was duly elected by the Zambian people in a free and fair manner.
