20 ZAMBIANS SELECTED FOR TURKISH SCHOLARSHIPS

ABOUT 20 Zambians have been selected to study in Turkey under the Turkish scholarship for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Speaking during a luncheon celebration of Zambian recipients of Turkish scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year yesterday Turkish ambassador to Zambia, Sebnem Incesu says out of the 217 Zambian students that applied only 6 of the candidates were selected for undergraduate studies and 14 for post graduate studies.

Candidates selected will study in various disciplines such as economics, biomedical engineering, veterinary and medicine among many others, Ms Incesu said.

Ms Incesu said Turkey has been providing scholarships programmes to international students since the 1990s as an important vehicle for cultural diplomacy and mainly to contribute to the improvement of mutual understanding of all people around the world.

To that effect, 8,000 students are studying in Turkey under scholarships with about 1,000 students for this year’s intake across the continent.

“Zambia has a very young and talented population and it deserves the best education, therefore the selected candidates should use your abilities to the fullest inTurkey to enhance knowledge and skills for yourselves as well as your country,” she said.

Meanwhile, speaking during an exclusive interview with Daily Nation, one of the youngest Zambian recipients of Turkish scholarships, 17-year-old Sulemani Kamanga from Chongololo School in Chipata commended the Zambian government through the Ministry of Education and Turkey for such an opportunity.

Turkey should continue offering scholarships and I am urging everyone to take advantage of such opportunities by applying for them, he said.
