STUDY COST OF DOING BUSINESS, GOVT URGED

By  LUCY PHIRI

THE economic council should study in-depth the cost of doing business and registration and come up with recommendations that will truly lower the cost of doing business.

Golden Party President ,Jackson Silavwe, has advised President Hichilema to direct his council to under a study without delay.

Mr Silavwe said  government can counter the high cost of living with the low cost of doing business especially for local businesses.

“Zambian’s must spend to keep the economy alive and fluid,” he said.

He said the main objective of countering the high cost of living with low cost of doing business is to give individuals and businesses increased spending power thus offloading that much needed kwacha into circulation.

Mr Silavwe said it is slowly dawning on many Zambians that reducing the cost of living may not be a reality before the 2026 elections and  that a bag of breakfast mealie meal will never go back to K115 or less.

He suggested abolishing Workers Compensation Control Board and fusing it into the NAPSA remittance.

“A percentage of the remittance to NAPSA should be reserved for workers who are injured,” he said.

He also suggested merging the fire certificate license into business levy certificate for all trading businesses  to reduce the cost of doing business.

Mr Silavwe disclosed that by reducing the cost of doing business it will put more money into the economy thus making the people afford the high cost of living as the UPND Government makes ‘structural adjustments’ to the economy.
