THE government is to import 650,000 metric tons of maize to avert the hunger situation.
Agriculture Minister Mtolo Phiri announced that talks were underway to import 650,000 metric tonnes of white and yellow non-genetically modified maize would be bought until April, 2025.
“The ministry wishes to encourage people to take up this business opportunity by sourcing non-genetically modified white and yellow maize grain,” Mr Phiri said.
He said the imported maize grain must conform to the country’s phytosanitary standards.
