CLERGYMEN must stand for what is right, instead of acting as hypocrites and supporting wrong things, New Congress Party leader Pastor Peter Chanda has charged.

Pastor Chanda said men of God should be principled representatives of biblical values.

He wondered why the arrest of an opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema had become an issue to some sections when they knew he was required to face the law to prove his innocence over charges levelled against him.

It was the duty of the church, he said, to pray for people to change their behaviour and not just condemning them.

He said respect for authority was cardinal and that those in conflict with the law had themselves to blame.

Pastor Chanda advised clergymen to pray fervently and make those who were in denial to repent and accept the will of God if they meant well for the people of Zambia.

He said no one was above the law and that Mr Hichilema was not an exception, and that he should be corrected just like any other Zambians if the need arose.

“Let the UPND leadership reconcile and repent if they truly mean well for the Zambian people.

“Those organising  prayers he said, must be sincere and stand for the truth and ensure they prayed for the right cause and not just want to be seen sympathising with Mr Hichilema,” he said.

Pastor Chanda urged Zambians to thank God for giving them the leader, saying the Presidency deserved respect regardless of who occupied the office.
