FAZ IN SHOCK

…latest ‘sexual allegations’ surprise FAZ

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) says it is shocked by the alleged misconduct by Copper Queens coach Bruce Mwape who is accused of sexual assault during Zambia’s maiden appearance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

According to “The Guardian,” FIFA is investigating claims that Mwape rubbed a player’s chest at the World Cup.

In the report published on August 3, 2023, Mwape who led Zambia to a historical first World Cup win at the tournament in Australia and New Zealand is accused of rubbing his hands over the chest of one of the players two days before Zambia’s victory over Costa Rica in their final World Cup match.

The Guardian also alleged that FIFA has confirmed receiving an official complaint about the alleged incident and that FAZ is believed to be aware of the incident.

However, FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga said FAZ has not received any complaint from any of the players or officials in the delegation that travelled to the World Cup.

“It has therefore come as a surprise for us to hear of such alleged misconduct by the coach as reported in the said online publication,” Kamanga said.

“As a matter of fact, all the training sessions for the Copper Queens were filmed by the FAZ media team and offers no such footage as envisioned by The Guardian.

Additionally, a FIFA film crew attached to the Zambian team at the World Cup was present at all training
