INFRASTRUCTURE is vital for development and is one of Government’s priority areas upheld in both the National Development Plan and Vision 2030, says Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) director investment promotion Matongo Matamwandi.

In a statement, Mr Matamwandi noted that infrastructure development was one of Government’s priorities of ensuring sustainable development across the country.

He said that infrastructure development was upheld in both the National Development Plan and Vision 2030 and that it was mainly through Public Private Partnerships (PPP) projects.

Mr Matamwandi outlined that tourism, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors needed a boost, if the country was to see meaningful development.

Mr Matamwandi noted that infrastructure development cuts across sectors, is unlimited and that there were vast opportunities available in the tourism sector which he said included building ultra-modern hotels, lodges and conferences.

“Some of the specific projects available for development include flagship of lodges on the shores of Lake Itezhi-Tezhi, located in Zambia’s largest national park that boasts around 22,000 square kilometers. The hotel and lodge developments range from 50 to 400 bed capacity, conference centres with at least 5,000 seating capacity and shopping arcades,” he said.

He encouraged property developers to take keen interest in coming up with developmental initiatives because of the country’s healthy macro-economic environment.
