THE Confederation of Southern African Football Association (COSAFA) has urged Under-20 players who featured at this year’s championship being held in Kitwe to take care of their financial resources.

COSAFA general secretary Sue Destombes urged the young footballers to learn to use their financial resources wisely.

She was speaking during a Mopani Copper Mines COSAFA financial literacy workshop held at Moba Hotel in Kitwe.

Destombes noted that COSAFA was proud to contribute to the development of soccer in Africa.

She commended corporate entities such as Mopani for collaborating to host the COSAFA Under-20 championship which is critical to the development of young African footballers.

FAZ vice president Rix Mweemba emphasised the need for footballers to be responsible and accountable for their financial resources.

Mweemba noted that accountability was key for a football player’s successful life.

“Without being accountable for your financial resources, you will end up living a miserable life as a footballers after your playing days. Therefore I urge you to be accountable and responsible because you are the future of African football. Mwemba said.

Meanwhile, Chipolopolo legend Emmy Musonda encouraged the Under-20 boys to be disciplined and hardworking to be able to succeed in their football careers.

Musonda noted that without discipline, a player will not achieve anything because discipline is the key a player’s success.

And former Chipolopolo defender and 2012 AfCON winner Nyambe Mulenga, who also played for Zesco United but stopped after being involved in a road traffic accident, encouraged the players to start preparing for their future by saving the little finances they make from football.

The financial literacy workshop was characterised with presentations from Ecobank Zambia on how players can invest their finances.
