Some promotions that were made in the Zambia Police Service were not in line with the constitution of Zambia, says Home affairs and internal Security minister, Jack Mwiimbu.
Mr Mwiimbu was speaking when he paid a Courtesy on Southern Province Minister Cornelius Mweetwa in Choma.
He said some promotions were done without considering what the law states and did not follow the right procedures.
Mr Mwiimbu also observed that there were some officers who were more deserving but were left out due to discrimination.
“We have officers who have served for more than 15 years but were not promoted yet others were promoted despite having served for a short time,” said Mr Mwiimbu.
He stressed that there was need to balance up regional consideration and gender when making the promotions in the service.
“You see people should not be discriminated due to tribe nor sex because promotions must be fairly done,” added Mr Mwiimbu.
Meanwhile Mr Mwiimbu asked ministers to direct local authorities to stop giving permits to witch finders in communities.
He explained that this will deter witch finders from conducting their activities which have led to killings in some communities.
He added that there is need to liaise with traditional leadership to bring down the killings which were being recorded in the province.
This came after Southern Province Minister Cornelius Mweetwa reported that some people were being killed on suspicion of witchcraft as families would hire people to kill the suspects.
