PANIC and desperation has gripped disgruntled elements planning to oust President Edgar Lungu for fear that he will continue performing wonders in the next three years, which will cost them the 2021 elections, former UPND vice president for politics, Canisius Banda has charged.

Chishimba Kambwili’s party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) appealed to Members of Parliament to write to the speaker of the National Assembly, Patrick Matibini to immediately convene a special sitting of Parliament to start the impeachment process of President Edgar Lungu.

But Dr Banda reiterated that those calling for the impeachment of President Lungu were as themselves corrupt as rotten eggs. He told the Daily Nation that this impeachment drive was a ruse, only a trick by people with pure unadulterated malice, egotism and hatred.

Dr Banda said that disgruntled elements were now gripped with desperation and panic, because President Lungu would continue pleasing the nation as long as he remained in power.

He pointed out that the Head of State was a threat for as long as he continued pleasing the nation during the remaining three years of his tenure.

Dr Banda said that the cartel now wanted a short and quick way to remove the President and put themselves in his place, which he vowed would never happen.

“Those calling for the impeachment of President Lungu are themselves as dirty and are as corrupt as rotten eggs. They smell. This impeachment drive is a ruse, only a trick. Noting that 2021 is quite far away, and for as long as the President pleases the nation during the remaining time, he might be re-elected, they are now panicking and desperate. “They themselves must govern and now! What thinking is this? They now want a short and quick way to remove him and put themselves in his place; and this they would call national change, development. What a lie!” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Banda said that the NDC were drunk with malice and hatred and that they needed to quickly sober up and desist from their pursuit of political instability to suit their sectarian interests.

He advised that it was poverty, backwardness, ignorance, hunger and disease that people should impeach, not President Lungu.

Dr Banda vowed that the impeachment drive would fail as its basis was hollow, selfish and devoid of conviction and inspiration.
