Lungu to grace this year’s Kuomboka ceremony

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu is expected to grace this year’s Kuomboka traditional ceremony of the Lozi people in Mongu, Western Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu has said.

The ceremony will be held on April 8 and is expected to host a number of tourists and people from all walks of life, after an absence of three years.

The water pilgrimage marks the shifting of the Lozi king, the Litunga, from his winter palace at Lealui in the middle of the flooded Barotse Plains to Limulunga the summer palace 15 km north of Mongu.

Mr Mubukwanu said President Lungu had been invited to be guest of honour at the event by the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE).

“All is set for this year’s Kuomboka traditional ceremony. According to the organisers, the President is expected to officiate at the ceremony since an invitation was extended to him,” Mr Mubukwanu said.

He encouraged people to come in large numbers and attend the ceremony as it would have a lot of interesting activities.

Mr Mubukwanu also appealed to the corporate world to get on board and support the ceremony.

“People should turn out in large numbers and attend this colourful ceremony.  I believe it’s going to be great especially after a long time of its absence. I also urge businesses to get on board and assist in the holding of the ceremony,” he said.
