THE decision by Government to increase the allowances of councilors from K700 to K3000 shows that President Edgar Lungu and his Government are listening to the cries of the Zambian people and mean well for the country, Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) executive director Pukuta Mwanza has said.

Rev. Mwanza said that the decision by Government to increase the allowances for councilors was an indication that it was listening to the cries of the Zambian people. He noted that it was barely a few months ago when councilors across the country were complaining about their allowances being little.

Rev. Mwanza said that the Head of State had listened and promised to do something about it, and that he had now fulfilled his promise.

He said in an interview with the Daily Nation that a good leader should listen to the needs and concerns of the people being lead.

Rev. Mwanza reiterated that there was no need for rigidity and that a leader should endeavour to see to it that the needs of his subjects were met.

Rev. Mwanza said that President Lungu had a heart for the people and that he was willing to transform the lives of the poor people.

He said that the country was still struggling financially but that Government managed to secure some money to carter for the increment because it was caring.

Meanwhile, Rev. Mwanza advised councilors to work hard and ensure that they performed according to people’s expectations.

He said that they should appreciate the increment because Government had not in a long time increased salaries nor allowances with such a wide percentage.
