ZESCO chief outlines vision

ZESCO Managing Director Victor Mundende has highlighted plans by the utility company of becoming Africa’s hub for power.

And Zambia through ZESCO has assumed the presidency of the Association of Power Utilities of Africa (APUA) held by Angola for the last three years.

Speaking at a joint media briefing he addressed with outgoing president, Engineer Jose Antonio Neto of Angola at Avani Victoria Falls Resort in Livingstone on Monday, Mr Mundende said Zambia experienced several challenges in the past two years due to power deficit

The briefing was held ahead of the 19th APUA Congress to be officially opened by President Edgar Lungu on today.

Mr. Mundende said that the country was forced to import power but was quick to mention that the utility company is seeing the bright future.

He told journalists that ZESCO wants Zambia to be the hub for power in the region and further begin to start exporting power to other countries. Commenting on the conference, Mr. Mundende said that the purpose of conference is to bring development in the energy sector and allow utility companies in Africa to work together.

“It is an important gathering for Zambia. Power utility companies in Africa are facing similar challenges and during the conference, we will discuss these challenges and find solutions together as APUA,” he said.

And the outgoing APUA president Engineer Neto said that there were many activities that need to be concluded by the association adding that during the conference, delegates will discuss some of those activities and find solutions.
