NDOLA District Education Board secretary (DEBS) Terry Changwe is delighted over the positive response of the use of Bemba in lower grades in schools in the area.

Mr Changwe said the use of Bemba by pupils in grades one to four had yielded a lot of positive results in the district.

In an Interview with the Daily Nation, Mr. Changwe noted that most of the children in the lower grades found it hard to express themselves in English.

“English is a foreign language, hence, most of the children in the early grades of one to four found it hard to express themselves well.

“We discovered that the children were shy to speak up in classes which demotivated them from wanting to learn due to the fear of making mistakes and being mocked by their fellow pupils which led to some of them absconding classes,” he said.

Mr. Changwe noted that ever since the use of Bemba was introduced in the lower grades o, the pupils were no longer adamant and the attendance rate had gone up.

They also disclosed that the District Education Board was on ground implementing the revised curriculum in schools quickly and effectively in the district.

He noted that the pupils did well with the previous curriculum because Ndola came out second for the grade sevens exams and third for the grade nines in the entire province.

Mr. Changwe noted that the board was doing a great job in implementing government policies in the district.

He added that the board also took it upon themselves to ensure that the surroundings in schools were kept clean at all times to curb the development and spread of diseases.
