UNIDENTIFIED people yesterday broke into former press aide to President Edgar Lungu, Amos Chanda’s car and stole four title deeds for his properties, K64, 000 cash, a diplomatic passport, laptop, and other important documents he wanted to take to his lawyer.
Mr Chanda said all documents the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) were demanding for during a search that was conducted on his three properties were stolen from his car on Thursday evening after a break in at a restaurant in the Kabulonga area.
He explained that he was taking the documents and money to pay his lawyers when the incident happened.
“Surprisingly, these are the documents that the ACC wanted when they came to search my properties. I wanted to take them to my lawyer and as I was chatting with him at a restaurant, my car was broken into and my diplomatic passport, laptop, four title deeds for his properties, K64, 000 cash, Covid certificate, ZRA TPN certificate, and other important documents were stolen,” he said.
Mr Chanda said he reported the matter at Kabwata Police Station and the matter was transferred to Woodlands Police Station.
Meanwhile, Mr Chanda said he had written to the ACC Director-General complaining that the search by officers was conducted unfairly as he was threatened of drastic action by one of the investigators holding a pistol.
He said unlike what was reported by some media organisations, he was cooperating fully with the security wings to search his properties though under protest because it was illegal as the search warrant was indicating another property but instead they forced their way onto his property.
Mr Chanda said the raid was illegal because whereas the warrant had his name, the plot indicated was not his.
He also said he was about 45 minutes away when the officers called him to get to the farm within 10 minutes.
He explained that the officers searched his farm on Njolwe and State Lodge area as well as his residence in Woodlands, but did not yield anything.
