Self proclaimed pastor imprisoned for dealing in marijuana

A 20 year old self proclaimed pastor of Choma District has pleaded guilty to dealing in marijuana before the Choma magistrate court.

This is in a case where  Musa Siamani was appearing in court on a charge of trafficking  in psychotropic substances contrary to section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances Act no. 35 of the Laws of Zambia and read together with statutory Instrument No 119 of 1995 contrary to the laws of Zambia.

According to the particulars of the offense, on February 11, 2022  the accused person is alleged to have been found in possession of 23 grams of marijuana without any lawful authority.

When called to take plea before Senior Resident magistrate Peter Mungala, the accused person willfully pleaded guilty to the charge.

Brief facts before court were that on the material day Drug Enforcement Commission officers received information of  a male person who was selling marijuana to the general public in Zambia compound of Choma District.

After conducting  the operation the officers  managed to apprehend the accused person and recovered the said drug after conducting a body search.

During  his mitigation the accused person only pleaded for forgiveness before court while stating that he has learnt his lesson while in custody.

Magistrate Mungala however informed the accused person that the offense he committed has a minimum mandatory sentence of one year leaving him with no option to give a lesser punishment

The court then slapped the accused person with a one year imprisonment with effect from his date of arrest.
