Socialist Party casts doubt on UPND’s ability to rule

By GIDEON NYENDWA

UPND was not ready to govern and that is why they have continued talking even when they are in government, Socialist Party (SP) Secretary-General Dr. Cosmos Musumali has said.

Dr. Musumali said that in governance there was nothing like giving them more time because once one is elected, they have to hit the ground running.

He said during a televised interview that running a country was different from running a personal relationship where one could say they need to gauge and know each other, running a country was about laws and policies.

“It’s a matter of life and death, Zambians are waiting,” he said.

He said that UPND had failed to deliver on most of the promises they made and the Zambians were reading through it.

Dr. Musumali said that it was unfortunate that UPND had continued talking even in government instead of actualising the numerous promises that were made while campaigning for the last August 12 tripartite elections.

Dr. Musumali said the promises of the UPND were just mere rhetoric that they cannot deliver and they do not need five years to see that they were not living up to their word.

He said that the freedom that the UPND government was singing praises about was just a mere rhetoric, SP members were attacked in the Kaumbwe by-election by UPND cadres and just yesterday some of their cadres beat up SP members in Sokotwe in Lufwanyama.

Dr. Musumali also said that what was on the ground was different from what they had promised, they promised cheaper fuel, electricity and fertiliser but what was happening now was something else.

He said that there was nothing new about the current government because most of the key ministries were in the hands of former MMD leaders.
