THE European Union has called for calm and assured the Zambian people of peaceful elections.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka yesterday, delegation of the EU to Zambia and Comesa, Ambassador Jacek Jankowski has since called on all political parties taking part in tomorrow’s general elections to remain calm.

Mr Jankowski said elections are the pillars of any democratic country like Zambia.

Mr Jankowski observed that Zambia is among other African countries which conducts peaceful elections, therefore the mission has since assured Zambian people of credible elections.

He said EU are bound by a code of conduct and ethical guidelines which require strict neutrality and impartiality and the EU will respect the laws of Zambia.

He said following the EU election observation methodology, the mission will issue a preliminary statement and hold a press conference in Lusaka after the elections.

He said the final report, which will include a set of recommendations for future electoral processes, will be presented and shared with stakeholders after the finalisation of the entire electoral process.

He said it is the mission’s role to carry out a comprehensive observation on the entire electoral process in Zambia.
